  • Before...it didn't look THAT bad to start with...SIGH! 2
  • hardwood floors you say? they had to go, thanks to the pets who lived and pottied on them for twenty years. 1
  • This is the old kitchen, off to the landfill. The former owner's pets absolutely destroyed everything with, you guessed it, urine and feces. It was a disgusting mess!
  • assembly and install time :) 1
  • I got the medallions for 10 bucks a piece 12x12. I was so excited and they are stunning! 1
  • styro-tiles painted copper to match the copper accents throughout the kitchen. 1
  • Linoleum was never intended to be used as a backsplash...tsk tsk tsk...the former owners were over the top with stuff like this. It's a wonder the place didn't burn to the ground. 1
  • This wall HAD to come down...Can you see the snafoo the former builders made? All I could say was YIKES! Where's my hardhat?? lol
  • got the range hood on clearance also and really love it, once we got it in its correct location, all was well!
  • cabinets going in... 1
  • Putting Ready-to-assemble cabinets together is not for the faint of heart, but the money saved is so much, that it's worth all the agony and confusion! :) No particleboard in these cabs, all hardwood plywood and cheaper!
  • I so love this copper sink and the bridge faucet was a screaming deal! Couldn't pass it by. 1

  • 1
  • I call this the 'baking area' - just countertop, nothing else! 1
  • almost finished!
  • I chose to have just a few upper cabs because of the 'closed in' feel galley kitchens often have. There are two upper cabinets for storage, a plate rack and a wine rack. Heavy duty drawers hold what doesn't go in the plate rack.
  • Since I home can veggies and fruits, I wanted a durable cooktop, so I chose an updated old style that I can set heavy pots on and not worry. The pot filler absolutely ROCKS! Love the tile - slate medallions below and glass tile above.
  • Low voltage electric infloor heating under slate. The slate works better than tile because natural stone holds heat better and I love the look of it.

Victorian remodel, kitchen of my dreams, sort of...

I laugh when I watch the shows where they spend 60K remodeling the kitchens. Mine was a complete tear out, including taking down a bearing wall, and taking the floor to the joists, and my ...»
total spent was less than 20K. A lot of what I added to the kitchen came from Ebay, because I'm a junkie for a good deal, AND I was able to save substantial money and still have everything I wanted. Fixtures, faucets, sinks and cabinets, as well as my supplier for infloor radiant heating, and tile backsplash tiles...nothing retail :) Here's a few before and after shots...

solid white kitchen in a beautiful historic home - I may scream. I can't understand how you can call a modern white kitchen - a renovation to the style of a 1890's home. My 2 cents.

  • It is possible to have a non-white kitchen feel fresh and light! 5
  • Simple window treatments allow windows to bring in as much light as possible while still adding warmth. 2
  • Glass front cabinets add depth and reflect light.

When You Don't Have a White Kitchen!

What do you do when you don't have a white kitchen? They are all the rage right now but for those of us who find ourselves with dark cabinets it can feel a little bit like we aren't part ...»
of the "in" crowd. I hope you will read the rest of this over at our blog to find out how you can still create a space that is light, bright and full of charm without breaking open that can of white paint!

Outdoor Living: Temporary Pergola?

I'm having a backyard dinner party to celebrate my sister's Master's degree, and I would like to have a straight row of tables under a fabric draped pergola. Is there any way to build a ...»
pergola that's not set in concrete? I've seen some set in flower pots filled with concrete. Any other suggestions for building something temporary?

My idea would be to go to a store like Hobby Lobby where they have the cheap metal arbors for ...»
weddings. You can always decorate the arbors with silk ivy to make it look like an outside room. If it is in the evening you can even add small christmas lights. (everyone carries the lights now all year)

  • Patio makeover using concrete pavers and gravel

http://jennifersmenti...

PATIO MAKEOVER! As a renter sometimes you are limited to what you can do to make your place feel like your own. Sometimes all you need to do is just ask your landlord. That's what we did with our patio makeover. He was fine with it and trusted our judgement. Heck, we added value to the place! We wanted to do it in an affordable way, so we used pavers and gravel. We are so pleased with the results! for more details you can visit my blog www.jennifersmentionables.wordpress.com

Design & Décor: What color backsplash shoud I go with?

We have cherry cabinets and dark countertops, what color would look best for the backsplash? We will be using tile of some sort, but after going this far with this kitchen redo, I don't want ordinary tile.

I would go with a stainless steel look to match the appliances. You can use metal ceiling ...»
tiles to get this effect or you can go with the new "glass tiles" in a verigated color pattern.
