Home Maintenance & Repairs: Need help with tile floor

I need to level my bath floor before installing anything else. Should I use self leveling concrete then concrete board on top? Any thoughts on a different direction? Thanks

When changing the electrical panel in your home industry standard is $100 per amp. For ...»
example, if your panel is 150 amps then the price would be $1,500 with installation. This should include the panel, the brakers, the installation of the new panel and the removal of the existing panel. However, cost may vary if you are considering a service upgrade.

Painting: I am replacing the drywall and insulation in my kitchen walls due to mold issues.

I am only doing work to the the exterior walls. Should i use faced or unfaced rolls of insulation? Also, should I put up a vinyl vapor barrier between insulation and drywall?

I found two openings near where most of the mold was. One hole was open to the backside of the ...»
brick wall. The other spot actually has an old faucet connection that had water still inside the pipes. Do you think sealing these holes up and proceeding with insulation and drywall is correct? Thanks for all the help.

Remodeling: I am remodeling a small bath.

I am putting in a tile shower in one corner with cement backer board and a membrane like Kerdi. Which walls do I need to put plastic vapor barrier on? One wall is an exterior wall. Do I need to have a vapor barrier in ceiling too?

I recommend always going the safe route and preparing all surfaces. I have a product called ...»
Redguard that I use on a regular basis for the walls and always use a shower pan liner (membrane) for the floor. Also ensuring even better protection if allowed in the budget go the route of epoxy grout. It is more costly and is hard to use the first go around. But if you follow the directions you will do just fine. My customers that have had repeat jobs and used both regular sanded grout and epoxy the next time in other areas have been more satisfied with epoxy because of its stain resistance and is less likely to discolor because of mineral deposits, which makes it perfect for showers with dark grout and people with hard water.

    Hi Robert, ...»

The spray foam will certainly seal up things like cracks and gaps much better than a roll will. Due to that, it offers better insulation than rolls in many cases.
