Home Maintenance & Repairs: Installing a programmable thermostat for electric baseboard heaters.

We currently have two 240 v baseboard heaters in our master bedroom, attached to one old double pole thermostat. Want to replace it with a programmable. Bought a honeywell off amazon ...»
for use with electric baseboard, but it throws the breakers (heaters are on a double breaker). Maybe it can't handle two heaters together? In the wall we have two sets of wires (each set has a black and a white - I assume one for the heater and one to the power source). Any advice is appreciated!!

All 240 volt systems will be on a "double" breaker...it is the TOTAL voltage differential. ...»
240 s use a hot / hot type configuration as apposed to a normal 120 that use a hot / neutral config.

The critical issue is to pair the right breaker "rating" with the appliance...and unsure the wiring is up to snuff.

My big project yesterday was upgrading the wiring for a 240 volt steam shower. This was modified recently and some 12 ga wire was used...this was set up with a 15 a /240 breaker. This steam generator requires 10 ga with a 30 a breaker.

You will need to check the power rating of the thremo...and see it it matches the combined loads of the heaters...normal limits for 12 ga are only 20a.

Painting: Temperature for priming/painting a concrete floor?

Getting ready to prime (behr masonry/concrete primer) and paint (concrete paint) my basement floor. Instructions say to use when above 50 degrees. Is it possible to do this when it's ...»
colder or is this a pretty necessary step? Our basement is heated by space heaters and obviously i'll have those gone to paint the floor. Thanks!

Home Maintenance & Repairs: We're installing a wall bathroom exhaust fan through an exterior wall.

The fan uses an 8'' duct. Any advice for how to cut the 8'' duct hole in the exterior wall? There are no wires or studs in the way. Are there hole saws for 8'' ducting or is our best bet to use a sawsall?

Thanks for your input!!

Yes they make hole saws that size. You most likely can rent one at your local HD or rental ...»
store. Be sure to rent the drill that powers it as well. it takes a lot to turn this bit around and most home owner drills will either not be large enough to hold bit or to small and will burn out before hole is drilled.

Be careful when using this large of a bit also. If it binds it will throw you off of the ladder.

Sawzall would work but its harder to no destroy the outside siding and if its vinyl or some other hard cement based it will tear it up fast.

Here is the old self-leveling question.

Leveling an above ground basement bathroom floor (after plumbing has been put in etc). We used the sakrete self leveler, mixed it up per directions and even added a little extra water ...»
per the manufacturers info sheet. We weren't able to get it quite flat so we ended up with a lot of ridges and some bumps. I've seen some videos that the self leveler pours more like paint and spreads mostly on it's own. Any advice for what to use that will fill in the low spots some before we tile? (WIll be tiling with small hex tiles, so maybe the fact that the floor isn't perfectly flat isn't a huge deal?)

Basement Painting

Thinking about renting a paint sprayer to do the basement we're finishing. Anyone have advice for those? Do the kind you can rent work okay or is it safer to just roll it?

Thanks for the input! It's drywall, but empty - so we have to do walls and ceiling, and the ...»
cement floor isn't much of a worry. We'll look into getting some good, 18'' rollers, and starting with the ceiling.
