Granite or engineered stone/quartz is great looking and an excellent choice for high-end bathrooms and guest baths. But I am still a large fan of cultured marble with integrated sinks when it comes to high-use bathrooms for kids and the like. It is not your "mom's" cultured-marble of even a few years ago as the choice in colors/styles/patterns has been multiplied several times. It makes good sense and extremely cost-effective...so don't rule it out without checking it out.... Tim

Countertops: For bathroom countertops is Cambria a good choice? I believe that Cambria is a high-end quartz. How about sinks?

For bathroom countertops is Cambria a good choice? I believe that Cambria is a high-end quartz. Would I use an undermount sink as we did with our granite in the kitchen?

Cambria is a reputable quartz product - all colors are one price group, so depending on your ...»
preference they could prove to be the most expensive (in the quartz arena anyway). Silestone, Zodiac, and Caesarstone are equivalent competitors.

I agree with the undercount method, they are unsanitary.. but alas, hard to beat the beautiful design options with under mount sinks on the market.

If cleaning concerns you, Id encourage you to look at Corian solid surface - they have come a long way and now have colors that can compete with with marble and granite while still offering the option of an integrated sink.

Remodeling: I would like to remodel our bathroom countertops.

Are people raising their bathroom countertops when they remodel? My cousin said that they are raising them to the height of kitchen countertops which is 36 inches?

Thank you so much Woodbridge Environmental. All good points to consider. Actually we are ...»
thinking more in terms of what is 'in style' at this point'. However - taller countertops would be more comfortable for my husband & would have been wonderful when I was recovering from my last & SUCCESSFUL back surgery. I would always wash my face at the kitchen sink or in the shower as I was not supposed to bend for several months. Would you suggest Cambria (quartz) or granite for the countertop. Thus far we like the 2-month old granite in our kitchen.

Kitchens: Has anyone had good or bad experiences with Granite Transformations?

(Granite sheets are laid over your existing countertops.)

Yet another question..... We are going to replace our 17-18 year old 30 inch cooktop. Still ...»
works just fine BUT since we are updating/replacing other things in the kitchen decided to do the cooktop as well. QUESTION; Has anyone ever used the smooth cooktop - NO KNOBS? It is strickly touch controls rather than the knobs. The woman at Lowe's said that they had not had problems with this BUT It seems a little bit too progressive for me. Has anyone ever gotten this type of stovetop? It is Whirlpool I believe. Totoally smooth - no knobs at all.

I am considering buying a new kitchen faucet that has the spray pulldown.

Will those get to where they no longer stay up in the faucet ? I am a little concerned about how well they might last.

If you buy the very inexpensive models, they don't retract well at all from day one, even though they do have the weights that are mentioned above. Buy yourself a good quality one, and you won't have issues. Also, good tip from Benjamin...make sure the hose can move freely, without getting hung-up on other plumbing, like the angle stops....
