Depending on the type of stain that was used, you may be able to strip it off using a chemical ...»
stripper and pressure washing. I use a product called "RipIt" that you can get from SunBrite Supply in Lawrenceville. If the stain is the type that has acrylic in it, it is going to be harder to get off. I add some of the Flood stripper to the Ripit mixture. Be sure to thoroughly rinse it use some Brightener/Neutralizer (also from SunBrite", then let it dry for a couple of days. Most likely will still have some stain showing. I often apply an exterior latex paint with Gulf Synthetics "PermaPaint" additive. Works great for vertical. Check out www.sunbritesupply.com and www.gulfsynthetics.com . If the stain comes off really well, you can use Ready Seal oil based stain, which would be best for the new wood, after it drys.
