Company Overview

I'm a 4th generation contractor/handyman and absolutely love what I do. HandyANDY is one of the few firms left that hand washes and hand paints exteriors with a lifetime of ownership warranty. I started the company in 1996 after buying a home and having such a hard time finding anyone decent to work on it for me. We pride ourselves on good work at fair prices. We specialize in assisting buyers of foreclosures review proposed repairs & improvements in advance and then completing the project based on a line-by-line item bid.

Services

Painting, Carpentry, Handyman

Areas of Expertise

We handle a full variety of "handyman" repairs...anything from gutter cleaning, to painting to rotted wood replacement and roof repairs. We've handled alot of insurance repair work over the years. We'll pretty much handle anything except design/build or higher end renovations.....if we don't do it...we know someone who does and will stand behind the referral.

Home Maintenance & Repairs: I have a question involving the Grid system on our wood windows.

They were scratched and chewed by a dog with approximately 50 percent of the grid ruined. Lowes suggest replacing the windows. Another handyman said he could buy a kit to replace the grid ...»
system. The cost would be the same the only difference is if we buy new windows they will not be of wood. The kits will allow us to keep the wood windows. Is there another way to replace the grid in the window by repairing the grid instead of the kits? Is there some we could call to accomplish this? Thank you.

You can usually find an old window shop that will have these or have them made for ...»
you....there is one in downtown Buford that has the wooden grills.

Remodeling: I need a master bath remodeler that can also do some structural changes.

I want to open up a 6'-9" x 16'-9" space and move the doorway to the center. The other side is an outside wall. I am in Cherokee County GA

If you are remodeling the bath, I'd contact AK Home Renovations from the professional board ...»
here....excellent work. I'm not exactly sure what you have in mind but if AK doesn't travel that far, they will probably have a refer for you. I'm usually up in Canton once a month doing repairs or looking at houses so if you can wait, we can take a look at it as well.

I need to build storage around my bed as we have a tiny room. Help!

Small room with very little space for storage. I was thinking of buying extra deep bookcases and screwing them to the wall, then placing a longer bookcase on top to give a built in ...»
cupboard look. I could then cover with material or make plywood doors for each shelf. What do you think? I need the easiest and cheapest option!

Extra deep bookcases usually don't work well....you end up over filling and you can't access ...»
your things.....why not place 2 smaller bookcases back to back and put them on rollers?

Home Maintenance & Repairs: Should I fix my broken doorknob or replace the whole door?

I broke it when I was locked out because I needed to get in quickly. The hole where the knob used to be is pretty messed up as is the lock mechanism.

If you have the basic skills, replace the door with a pre-drilled slab for about $30. Use the ...»
old door as a template for placing and cutting the new door hinges...you can reuse the old hinges. I don't know the location of the door but the reinforcing hardware is going to cost more and look silly on an interior door. Most times when a door like this locks, you can pop it slightly with a small trim pry bar and slide a credit card in to pop the door open. I have a tenant who locked the basement door twice yesterday by accident....and this little trick worked like a charm.

Home Security & Alarms: Entry door security/lock question

We are buying a home - need to buy new lockset for front entry door which has the full handle type (still need to measure the centers, but its around 9") and it has the separate deadbolt ...»
above. Ive seen sets that have the handle as a passage only (no key or lever lock on handle) -- so the only thing that locks is the deadbolt.

Same issue with the patio door, but this is just a knob + deadbolt above.

From a security stand point, wondering if its ok to just have the deadbolt to lock? Or is it best to have the knob/handle also lock?

Home Maintenance & Repairs: Has anyone used a product called "Restore"?

I'm considering getting this for my front steps. This product is supposed to give a non-slip texture so I think it would be a good choice. My steps are pretty simple and I've just ...»
painted the sides and face of them with a medium gray. I think a lighter gray would give my steps a much need facelift.

We've used this product to cover over decks with aged and splintered wood. The coverage isn't ...»
very good but gives a decent enough look for a resale at about hald the cost of replacing the decking.

For your front steps, you're better off to use a good quality porch/deck paint with some sand added for those slippery winter days in your area. Sherwin Williams sells an additive for grip and the name escapes me!

Bathroom: ANSI or other standard for bathtub size?

I have a small claims matter in which a contractor claims that "standard tub size" is 60"x30". I see 60"x32" is very common. Does anyone have any standard (ANSI or otherwise) which ...»
establishes the size or indicates that either is typical. My direct email is kmv@kmvlaw.com if you want to send me anything. THANKS!!!

There is no "standard" tub size which is why most remodelers & contractors spell out the ...»
actual dimensions...then there is no issue...at least not on size
