Concrete Garden Path

We made this garden walkway with a mold that we purchased at Lowe's. We mixed the Quickcrete up and then poured it into the mold a section at a time. It was almost like making mud pies. It was a bit time consuming but we were very happy with the end result. It has held up very well as it has been down now for about 3 years.

ended up taking it out as alot of the "stones" heaved from the winter frost. It does look good, but I don't think we would do it again as it is alot of hard work. Good luck with yours though!

  • I ran out of space in this tree circle – so MWHP (My Wonderful Hubby Phil) had the idea to move the washtub up – way up on the tree itself! 2

Better bling than pinwheels. String inexpensive Mardi Gras beads to add sparkle and pop. In dusk, they give the illusion of holiday lights. 1

  • The side yard before shot. The old retaining wall and fence sat at least 2 feet onto our neighbor's property. They are grand folks, and would never make an issue of it, but it was clear that any new fencing/walls needed to correct it 4
  • The view of the backyard from the south side of the house. And it is already missing the very, very sad 'privacy fence'--a failing wooden mess that our lab found himself running right through when chasing a ball!

Backyard Mega Makeover

When we bought this old house three summers ago, the backyard was a nightmare. I remember standing on the back porch with the realtor and saying, "Wow, this could be beautiful." She looked at me as if I were out of my mind. ;-)

  • I wanted a very old and rustic looking birdbath so I tried something new. I mounded up garden earth and chips of shredded mulch. I allowed the cement to drip off the edges of the castor bean leaf. I am very happy with the results. 1
  • Here I used an elephant ear. You can see where the leaf shrunk and left a border around the edge. This will be good when I apply the stain after the cement has cured properly.
  • Items needed; tarp, sand, gloves, cement, plastic bag, shovel and something to mix the cement in, I prefer a wheelbarrow.
