Yardsale Finds... Just Hide Them Until they Fit In

Husband says he is going to ban me from yard sales but he loves what I end up with! Eventually things look good! But....for awhile...sometimes too long of a while....they take up precious ...»
space!

So I only have to hide these from him till I discover their "full potential"! You see the potential don't you?

Repurposing & Upcycling: What to do with a 30 foot pool liner??

We have a 30 ft pool liner that was purchased a couple years ago, but then we got rid of the pool. Any ideas of what to do with it if I cant sell it??

  • To say the backyard wasn't a selling point for the house would be an understatement.
  • Here's the same view today.
  • While a pair of loquat trees in my neighbor's yard provided some privacy, what stood out most was the chain-link fence.
  • The loquats have grown, but a whole garden of bee- and butterfly-friendly plants hides the fence.

Share your garden before and after photos

It's prime gardening season in many places right now and we're getting a lot of questions on Hometalk from members facing challenges with their yards. Sometimes it's an old space with a ...»
vexing problem, sometimes it's the blank slate of a new yard. To show you such issues are not insurmountable, I am starting this thread where Hometalk members can show before and after photos from their gardens, and I'll break the ice with two pairs of photos from my own backyard. As the before photos (taken almost exactly three years ago) show, when I bought this neglected little house, the"yard" was nothing but sand and weeds. Today, happily, things look rather different. So start uploading, and let's show folks what can be done!

  • I started with two stars I've had forever but no longer use. They had Christmas scenes on them so I got some blue spray paint and covered that up.
  • I removed the labels of three #10 cans and spay painted them white.
  • I had 2 same-sized metal planters and they got a coat of pink spray paint.
  • I planted pink petunias in the two of the white cans and purple petunias in the third. The pink containers got white petunias and purple petunias.
  • Our wooden fence is now darn close to being as pretty as the rest of the garden and all I had to buy were a couple of cans of spray paint! 2

Making a Wooden Fence Pretty(ier)

I want more color in the back garden this year.

With that in mind, I decided to add some color to our faded wooden back fence.

  • Ants lying in Windex. 3

ANTS? Easy, Safe Solution!

An exterminator told my friend that when you begin to see ants, they are the scouts. Stop these and you won't have ants. My son discovered that if you spray them with Windex (or any other glass cleaner), they are exterminated. Keep after it for a while and you won't have ants. We have used this for years. 2 days ago our humming bird feeder leaked onto the concrete front porch...the liquid got down in the crack between brick and concrete so there was not way to flush it out. Ants ...»
appeared quickly, I sprayed them with Windex. Watched through the day and kept spraying them. Now ant free! Safe for kids, pets and environment! It is worth a try before you spend hundreds.

Furniture: Drawer Pulls- 2.5"?? An endangered species..

Is it just me or are 2.5" pulls impossible to find? I've been to all my local hardware stores (Lowes/Home Depot included) and the only option they had in 2.5" were the 'cup' pulls. I want something really unique for a piece I'm working on and need to replace the hardware. I really don't want to putty in the existing holes and drill new ones! HELP! Anyone found some neat ones?! Where?!
