I love creating miniature scenes in glass vases. A fish bowl vase is the perfect place to do that and you can use any size bowl, depending on the size of the objects you want to place in it.
To begin this winter scene I chose a larger-size of fish bowl vase and added a layer of crystal vase filler to stand in for snow. You can also use plain old table salt or Epsom salts as snow. These options are a lot less messy than the artificial snow you can buy.
Choose the pieces appropriate to the size of the bowl and arrange them in the "snow" to create a pretty winter scene. I love miniatures and I had a few small houses, trees and figurines on hand to choose from.
Adding some battery-operated mini lights around the base of the bowl adds a nighttime glow to the crystal snow.
These snow globe-like decorations are super easy to make and attract a lot of notice from visitors. I make one or two every year for Christmas, but something like this could be left out as a decoration all winter long.
