Upcycle a closet door

Question

I bought a closet door at a yard sale. Any ideas what to do with it? My creative mind has gone blank.

Oh I love this and the fact it's not painted. You could cut it in half (unless you have two parts of a bifold door) and make a short (or tall) bookshelf. Use it as the top of a long sofa table by adding legs and a base. Add a back to the louvers and use the slats for displaying photos, Christmas cards or for mail. If you don't want to add the back, then get some small wooden clothespins from a craft store to clip any of the above to louvers. the are about a zillion things you can do with it! Just do a search for upcycle shutters or bifold doors. Can't find the picture but I put a set of doors behine a tall square end table, with the slats facing up, and hung a long trailing Christmas garland in the center. It was beautiful!

I had a room divider like that.  My husband separated the two panels and we gel stained to match the cabinets and hung using saloon door hinges going into my laundry room.

We took out several slatted bifold doors from house we were remodeling. I took one hinged set of two doors, put it in front of my hot water heater in the garage by the kitchen door because I don't like having to look at water heater! When we need to get to water heater just pick it up and move it! I added some 'S' and 'Z' shaped hooks thru the slats and hang extra dog leash, plastic bags and other items that are lightweight and quick to get to. Now... for the rest of the doors! I'm still thinking, checking hometalk and waiting for a brain storm!!

turn the door upside down with the 'shutters' facing up and you could use it for holding notes, photos, recipes, etc. I would remove the top half and replace with a chalk board, paint all of it to match your décor, white chalk paint is especially cute and popular now

You could paint it with chalk paint, distress it if desired and put some prett hooks on it or cast iron hooks depending what look you are after. Hang it ln the wall for your coats, etc

I repurpose the small shutters, repaint, found some large words at Hobby Lobby like LOVE Happiness, Peace, etc attach one diagonally, you could do the chalkboard in the top half after removing slats and words across bottom.

Cutting in half has lots of possibilities. You need to think 'what is it I need.' I would find a wall that it fits,lengthwise... like over my washer and dryer, and build a shelf and cabinet out of it...it a pretty nice find,got to be a reason why you got it, be patient, it will come to you.... don't think I would paint it, unless it would fit better with your decor

I seen it at a antique store hung a slated shutter like yours over a window like a awning, inside and or outside. Really cute.

You can attach a backless stool or bench box with flip top to the bottom of shutter, paint to match, add hooks and small mirror for a sophisticated hall tree with storage or not. Maybe a small light at top.
