DIY Deer Head Made From Chicken Wire!

Fall makes me think of hunting season. The anticipation of waiting at home wondering if Dad got a deer that evening was always exciting and fun. Now that I'm all grown up and have a home of my own, I've noticed deer heads have become a common piece of decor even if it wasn't a hunter's prize. They are displayed simply because they are beautiful.
I love the faux deer heads you can buy, but don't have the budget for one at this point, so I decided to make one with what we had on hand. It took some brainstorming to come up with a material that was pliable, yet held it's form, but finally chicken wire came to mind!
While a little time consuming, this project wasn't all that hard. I'll give you a summary of the steps here and would like to invite you to my blog for the full tutorial: http://charmingimperfections.com/2015/09/its-a-chicken-wire-deer-head.html
You will basically be making a bunch of cone shapes out of the chicken wire. Start with a large neck.
Then, make the head which is about 3/4 the size of the neck. Squash together the chicken wire at the end for the nose. You may have to cut a half circle from the bottom of the cheek (back of the chin) to attach it to the neck.
Make some ears and antlers with more cone shapes. The antlers will be one long twisty cone with smaller cones protruding upwards from that one.
And, there you have it! A lovely, regal deer head for decor.
I love that I can add things to him for the change of seasons. Soon I'll be swapping out the flowers for leaves. You could also tie ribbon, string lights, or whatever you please on him.
I couldn't afford to buy a deer head, but making one out of chicken wire was far more rewarding! I love the way he looks and wouldn't trade him for one of those small resin ones for a second!
