African Violets

Can someone show me the correct pot to put my african violets in. They were a gift and I want to try to see to it they have room to grown.

The best pot to plant an African Violet looks like a pot in a pot. You plant the violet in the top pot and put water in the bottom pot. The top pot is not glazed all the way to the bottom so the water from the bottom pot can be absorbed Google african violet pots and you'll see what I mean. You water african violets from the bottom, never the top, it will make the leaves rot. You can find these type of pots at Walmart, Lowes, Home depo. I attached a picture for reference, If you look closely you can see that its two pots nestled inside each other

Mary is correct that you need to keep water off the the leaves of African violets. If you cannot find one like Mary shows, you can simply use a pot with a watertight saucer and putting water in the saucer. I agree as well. I have a whole collection and only use that type of pot. They also enjoy a southern facing window. Good luck!

my mom is so cheap she would never buy a pot in a pot....she has the most gorgeous african violets, waters them perfectly she has basic pots that are not solid on the botom and then has some sort of tin or plate with sides or something underneath so she can water from below. I guess that comes from going through the depression? but she has split her AV off many times and sent them home with many a family or friend so I guess it works as it can...

I guess I figured she wanted to buy an African Violet pot. I've just kept them in the plastic pot from thr store for a while and used a small bowl to water them from the bottom. I guess the key is water them from the bottom.

I have to confess, I was too cheap to ever buy the pot in pot for my African violets. I just set them in the plastic pots with a saucer underneath. They were happy, I was happy! I made lots of baby African violets by cutting a leaf and putting it in some regular potting soil without even any rooting hormone. I watered the the soil lightly, then put the pot in a clear plastic bag with plenty of air trapped inside and secured the top with a rubber band and placed in an indirect sunlite window. Then ignored for a month until new baby leaves popped up.
