Living Room Refresh and Budget Friendly Lamp Update

Today, I’m excited to share with you the small makeover that I just gave our living room! I didn’t change every piece in the room, but I gave it a much needed update.
Let’s start with what the room looked like before, shall we?
That’s how it looked after we moved in.

I filled it with stuff that we had from our last house. It’s a big room, I did what I could, but it’s really hard to decorate a room with random pieces that you bought for an entirely different home altogether!
To update this room without spending a lot of money, I switched the furniture with other furniture in the house and completely replaced the area rug with one that I bought on sale at Pottery Barn. Another way that I saved was to update some old lamps with spray paint. I spray painted 2 of my “mercury glass” table lamps and replaced the shades with larger, less traditional shades that I stopped and bought at HomeGoods. I also bought a new shade for my floor lamp that I had previously been using in the corner, giving it a fresh update and making it look like a brand new lamp.
This is what the lamps looked like before I changed the shades and/or the color:
Updating perfectly good lamps with spray paint is one of my favorite tips for saving money.I have done two lamps for the living room. I just tightly tape the neck and base of my lamps and then spray paint with my choice of color. Easy Peasy.
