Blue or green cushions?

Mickey Baron
by Mickey Baron
I redid my dining room with flea market finds. The cushions however, I found on Overstock.com. I am torn between the 2 colors. Which should I choose? TY for your vote -in advance.
~Blue~ Is it too blue?
Here's a larger pic of the room in blue, with the rug....
~Green~ I like the contrast, but think the blue makes it POP.

If, I have to choose between these two shades, I vote for the green, for it pulls the green from the walls. The blue in the cushions don't really go with the rug. Don't know how much you spent for the cushions, but I would pull one of the colors in the rug and make that the color for the cushions.

I'm trying to figure out what color are your curtains? and are your walls gold stripped? I can see your rug is blue with some green and looks like gold tones. I'm not sure the blue or green cushions work at all, but if I had to pick one it would be the blue.
    • Mickey Baron Mickey Baron on Sep 21, 2015
@Janice Yes, the walls are light blonde stripes. The swag scarf is a sage green. That's why I even ordered the green to begin with. Plus greens my fav color. But I'm opting for the blue. TY Janice.

Although my preference in usually green, I have to say the blue looks very comforting and classic in this room. Either way, good choices.
  • Susan reavis Susan reavis on Sep 21, 2015
    Defiantly the green!
  • Rose Rose on Sep 21, 2015
Sorry neither . A neutral color I think. Too busy with carpet pattern.
  • Jacalyn Jacalyn on Sep 21, 2015
Is there another color in the rug that you like? If so, that might work well for the seat cushions and help that color "pop" a little. Failing that, maybe a lighter blue in the rug would be a better color.

i kinda like it the way i see it. Green and blue is more interesting just add more blue & white plates or porcelains in your cupboard at the background and that will complete the picture...charming classic shabby chic...

Blue, at least from the picture. I don't see any green in the rug at all.
  • Janet Pizaro Janet Pizaro on Sep 21, 2015
Im thinking try taking a different color out of the carpet. I personally think both the the colors are to busy in that room. You already have alot going on.
  • Liliana Wells Liliana Wells on Sep 21, 2015
If there is no other color in the rug, I say blue.
  • Marlene Zawadski Lee Marlene Zawadski Lee on Sep 21, 2015
I think the earth tone tan in the rug would make it richer. Then accent with your blues and greens with a centerpiece and dishes
  • Cindy Cindy on Sep 21, 2015
i would say the green it accually accents the green in the wall and not being rude but the blue carpet really does not go with the room it would look great if you replaced it with brown or tan color
  • Judy Ann Judy Ann on Sep 21, 2015
blue, maybe a lighter shade of blue, maybe a white
  • Terra Gazelle Terra Gazelle on Sep 21, 2015
No blue.maybe more muted like your walls. I think the blue is too much, and that color green is too bright. I think the muted color would look great with that hutch.

Use blue, change out the carpet for a plain, light orange one and the blue will pop, making the focal point become the gorgeous seating at the center of the room. Save the green ones for the holidays and have a red carpet on hand to put in place of the orange one when you use them...

    Blue
  • Sheila Ryan Sheila Ryan on Sep 22, 2015
The blue compliments the furniture, but the carpet is just too busy with it all. Go with a different pattern or color. Maybe stripes? Black & white. The pic makes the cushions more turquoise than blue.

I agree wholeheartedly with Tracy Atkin! Google "Color Wheel" that's always a good guide. Blues and greens are too close together. If your walls, drapery, rug and cushion colors are too close, you lose all the room's charm. I use the 3, 2, 1 Method. 3 items of one color, 2 items of another color ( both of them close to each other on the color wheel), then 1 item of another color (opposite on the color wheel...ie-the orange rug Tracy was suggesting) The rest a neutral color and always one thing black, to ground the room. And of course, all bets are off for Christmas! Have fun!

This room is too busy! It has everything going on. Less is best. Remove carpet. Flowers on table. Get neutral cushions. Relax the room.

@Rose I LOVE this room! If you saw the entire area, you would see that it is very calming not over done at all. But ty for your input.

Tone down the carpet , something has to go more neutral

I like the blue cushions, but I'd definitely change the area rug....

I'm not being mean just want to suggest.your look is lost in the 80's louvre blinds, swags.flower on table.can u paint out hutch, change window treatment, take away flower.streamline the look. Just a little bit of paint.would would make a great transformation. Good luck.

@Rose I am kinda stuck in the 80s. But hey, I'm pretty traditional. I intend on painting the walls a solid. My son & I had done this stripe, yrs. ago & I think I'm holding onto it for sentimental reasons. TY for your ideas Rose.

I think the blue is too close to the blue rug, but not quite the same. It looks like you were trying to match and just didn't get it right. The green is a contrast and looks like you planned it thatnway. The green has my vote!
  • Marion Nesbitt Marion Nesbitt on Sep 23, 2015
Blue - melds with the rug and you have blue pieces in your hutch. I think the floral centre piece is too large for the table so I'd go with a lower, smaller arrangement.
  • Chris Taylor Chris Taylor on Sep 23, 2015
I like the green. Conrats on completing the room!
  • Delanie Delanie on Sep 26, 2015
I would go for either the green or a tan, if you can get it. The blue is just a little off and pulls the eye away from the rug and your table and chairs, which are the focal point of the room. Personally, I would use a tan or muted "gold" for the seat cushions so as to not take away from the focal point, like I said earlier. The vase of flowers is lovely, but a little tall, so I might move it to the hutch and put a basket or tray with a lantern, candle, and something seasonal like a pumpkin or a stack of small orange plates and maybe a blue checked napkin peeking over the side of the basket/tray. You have done a great job furnishing your room on a budget! It reflects your hard work and diligence! Congratulations!

    blue

Green. It works better with the rug and ties in the wall color more effectively.
  • Molly Moo Molly Moo on Sep 26, 2015
I vote for blue. And I LOVE the floral centrepiece!
  • Debi53 Debi53 on Sep 26, 2015
Between the two, I think the blue looks best, but the cushions look more like teal while the rug appears more navy or royal blue. It may just be that the colors are not reading true on my computer. If there actually is a difference in the hue between the cushions and the rug, I would try to bring in more of both colors as accents to pull the two together.
  • Bennie Bennie on Sep 26, 2015
Green! But I would suggest you go with one of the colors from the flowers! IN the rose pink family would look smashing! Trust me.
