During the fall, I always want to bake more whether it is cookies, pies, or cakes. There are so many delicious flavors we associate with the season like apples, pumpkin, and cinnamon that baking just seems like a natural thing to do. It is nice to have your most needed supplies close at hand for when the baking urge strikes. This rustic pumpkin stand is perfect for creating a little baking station in your kitchen.
I had the opportunity to work with Home Depot and 23 other bloggers to create a rustic pumpkin stand and style it in our own individual ways. My job was to show how it could be used in the kitchen. Immediately I saw the box on the front as being the perfect place to store everything I'd need for my next batch of fall cookies!
To make the pumpkin, I started by cutting some fence pickets and a 1x2 board to the appropriate sizes.
Everything got glued and nailed together to create the stand. A pumpkin shape was cut out of the fence pickets that were being held together with the 1x2 boards on the back.
Although I love the look of natural wood, I decided I wanted my pumpkin to be painted white. I also did some decorative shading with craft paint to make the pumpkin look a little more realistic. The edges were distressed to keep with the rustic feel of the project.
To finish the pumpkin off, I attached a few dried oak leaves and wrapped paper covered wire around the stem as a vine. The wire was the base of a garland that had been taken apart for another DIY project.
And my rustic pumpkin stand was finished and could be loaded down with my supplies!
Three thrift store glass canisters were used to hold flour, sugar, and brown sugar.
A muffin tin, cooling racks, and wooden spoons were tucked in behind the canisters.
And now when the urge strikes, I am prepared to whip up a delicious batch of cookies! This pumpkin keeps everything neat and tidy while still providing a decorative touch to the kitchen.
I'd love to know what you think about the idea of turning this pumpkin into a baking center.

Many of the bloggers participating in the challenge had some unique ideas. You can read more about my project as well as find the links to everyone else's at my blog!
