Removing Glue and Adhesive From Hardwood Floors

Hardwood floors- there's just something so wonderful about them.
Unfortunately, sometimes, bad coverings happen to good hardwoods. Like adhesive carpet tiles, or glued-on vinyl flooring.
Even less unfortunately, my 1934 farmhouse had both.

Step one in reclaiming our original floors?

Removing the carpet and the vinyl, and then dealing with all the nasty, messy glue underneath.

We went from this...

To this. All without using damaging chemicals or renting a sander.

But that's not all- we also did a lot of this...

All in the name of reclaiming, refinishing, and restoring our 1934 original hardwood floors. I'm convinced it will all be worth it.

Eventually.

I fancy myself somewhat of an expert... after more than 20 hours to complete just this first step of the process, I'd say I have some experience.

OMG great timing. We are working our way across our 1956 fixer upper reclaiming the hardwood floors and the kitche is next... with glue down carpet. I've been procrastinating for several weeks.
