Personally I would change the paint color to make the bathroom appear larger. Lighten the door as well Once you choose a different color select new color towels rugs and accessories. If storage is an issue try using baskets in the closet and under the sink .They help declutter .Of which is always my issue.

There does not appear to be room for that unit. Its hard to tell by photo

You've got that big empty wall, why not some kind of shelving? Either straight shelves or get creative and make some diamond shape shelves, roll your towels and store in the shelves. If you go with the etagere, make sure its high enough to allow the toilet seat lid to fully open. I had one that was fine, then we got new toilets (water efficient) and they were a little taller than the old one, now I have to get rid of the etagere because the seat lid won't stay up on its own! I tried blocks under the legs, but it makes it too wobbly, just in case anyone was going to make that suggestion.

Talk about coincidence! Just saw this on Pinterest. Checked out the blog associated: http://www.creatingreallyawesomefreethings.com/master-bathroom-progress-tour-and-a-plan/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+blogspot/XZIo+(C.R.A.F.T.)&utm_content=Google+Reader and she has some good ideas about bathroom storage, including attached picture. I think the shelves and baskets idea would look terrific over your toilet. She also mentions magnetic paint. Sheesh. Didn't realize they even made that! Good luck.

Paint will do wonders! I'd also replace the toilet paper holder or spray paint it white or a chrome/silver to match the sink faucet. I can't really see the vanity but I'd probably paint that lighter also. Change the mirror out or paint the frame. The pic Nancy posted is nice

    Love this idea! Thanks Nancy.

You could paper the walls with textured wallpaper, then paint the wallpaper with a light beige. Paint the sink cabinet, get rid f that tacky glass shower enclosure and buy a nice curtain rod and shower curtain. Take the glass out of the mirror and spray paint the frame a bright white to match the tiles. Can't really see the counter top in your pictures, but you could do a faux granite finish if you wanted.

To give yourself more storage, you could remove the pictures above the toilet and replace them with an over the toilet storage cabinet. Remove the mirror and replace it with medicine cabinet so you have a place for your everyday things that you need in a bathroom. Then add some wall sconces so that you have more light. Flip thru decorating mags on bathroom redos and find something that you like and will work for you.

I bought a very nice hanging canvas shoe holder and put it on the back or inside of the bathroom door.. It holds makeup, brushes and combs, toothpaste.. etc. Buy glass containers and put q tips..cottonballs etc. if you like country,, use canning jars.. Baskets on the counter or hang on walls with rolled up hand towels and wash cloths. I found a nice basket that fit perfectly on the back of my toilet that will hold 6 rolls of toilet paper! The possibilities are limitless!..

Ikea sells a full length bathroom cabinet I am planning on recessing into the bath wall between the studs opposite the sink in my beach house. it comes with a mirror. however you can use half a cabinet above your tile facing into the room, side by side. Instructions are available on Family Handyman if you want to build your own.

Floating shelves with a wine rack for rolled towels and baskets to contain small items can ease the storage shortage. My house has high ceilings, so I've used recycled pot racks in the bathroom above the mirror. I bought three large sewing baskets for myself and two daughters to store our make-up. We keep them in our bedrooms as they take up too much space in the bathroom. (Make-up doesn't need the moisture either)

First of all I would make that person who thru up wine all over the wall repaint it. LOL and get an over the toilet cabinet. I would get an oval mirror, hang long ways, then u could put shelves on the other side of the mirror since u have ur cabinet on the toilet. Tall toilet paper cabinet would fit nicely in the corner where the tub is. U could build ur own towel holder with a scrap piece of wood from the cull section of ur Lowes or Home Depot and some hooks. Sand paint and screw the hooks in. I used a piece from a pine snap together flooring that they threw in the cull bin . Or cut ur last name initial out of a nice piece, sand and paint, and put hooks in that to hang ur towels.

My first revamp would be to repaint the walls AND dark cabinets. Some modern, lighter colors would do wonders! It's fairly inexpensive to paint, so that would be my first move. On the wall adjacent to the toilet, you've got a lot of space there. You could add inexpensive shelves. Maybe two smaller with two longer underneath, for a total of 4 shelves, one on top of the other. They'd hold items, and give you space to put baskets or fabric-covered boxes. You could really work some pretty colors in there. A nice color pop of flowers on the toilet, maybe? But start with repainting. :-)

Here are some Wall ideas: some really elegant or what ever style you like Wall paper for at least 1 wall in the bathroom, if you don't like Wall paper how about Some Border along the top of the tile.. Or Stenciled Design.. Please paint the Walls- a Client of mine just had her bathroom painted a Really Eye Popping "POPPY" Color.. with all white accessories. Yes some wall Shelves above the Toilet and another Towel rack or more hooks on the wall where the other one is... even shelves on either side of the mirror or even a Cupboard above the Toilet... you could paint to match the vanity... and some kind of Storage on the back of the Bathroom door..

i agree...lighter paint. and how about some long shelves on the toilet paper wall with pretty baskets to take care of your storage issues. i've also seen big baskets on the floor with towels rolled and placed in them.

First of all... PAINT! -antique white on the vanity; a rustic blue or green paint (or both!) on the walls; take down mirror & put up smaller decorative mirror so you can have shelves on the sides. Turn door around so that it opens out of instead of into the bathroom. Do a 4'Hx16"W niche above the toilet for more shelving and your choice of cabinet style door or leave open.

I would paint the wall with a color out of the floor or the vanity top to pull the colors together, then add a nice accent color.http://homemadeintheheartland.blogspot.com/2013/01/diy-repurposed-popcorn-tins.html https://www.pinterest.com/pin/323414816968358928/ basket hung with bottom flush with the walls also are great storage in bathrooms.

A really neat idea, hang a wine rack over your toilet and store your towels. I am sure you could find one in a thrift store that would work. It is a pretty simple to do and looks great. For sure I paint the bathroom a different color and also paint the cupboards white. Whatever you do, it will look amazing, good luck and have fun!
  • Pick up a over the toilet storage shelves with cabinet and store your towels on the shelves and put your other items inside the cabinet. Put some baskets inside the vanity, and paint your walls a lighter color. Get an over the door hooks for robes and such and ad your pictures on the wall opposite your door.

You can also turn your light globes to reflect upwards which will help brighten it up.

paint walls lighter color, one out of floor and countertop unless there is another color you love. Paint the frame of mirror white! then use accessories to tie in colors or if all beiges used, decide on accent color for pictures or other items.

One of my favorite space savers is a stand alone toilet paper holder... only uses about a 5" square space on the floor and stores the extra rolls in the bottom section with a roll holder at the top... and it's pretty, too. My personal room is the 1/2 bath off the bedroom and I can organize/ decorate to suit only me. I made it frilly with lace butterfly curtain, an over the sink type space saver on which I put my most used make up in little plastic organizer trays (Dollar Store). Can easily change color at very little expense by changing the tray colors to match wash cloths and hand towels. Instead of a mirror that magnifies (on a stand), I have a swing away that easily folds up along the wall and takes no space (we older women have to see where the chinny hairs are coming from and a regular mirror doesn't show very well!) I also use a large wall mirror that has no frame, so it fits like a piece of the wall and takes no room... an inset medicine cabinet would not fit in. I also put a sized to fit tray on the toilet tank cover to hold various tubes and bottles that I didn't want to lay in a drawer... it can be removed if need be when visitors might be in there and put under the sink to be out of sight (but I'm not that particular about who sees my bath powder, hand creams, etc.!)

Use the wall the side of the toilet to hang mirror faced cabinets for storage.
