Sewing Machine Cabinet Becomes Multi-purpose Desk

What began as an old, drab sewing machine cabinet became a bright multi-purpose game table and desk.
Here's what I started with. Dull, drab and boring but no major damage.
There was some veneer damage. I first thought that I would sand it, patch the veneer and then paint the top. I changed my mind and totally removed the veneer top. I had never done it before and it was so easy.
This is what was under the veneer. I can work with this. So let the sanding begin!
The top area where the machine once was had no major damage. I just sanded lightly and put some "Restore It" on and it looks fine.
The sewing machine storage area just needed cleaned.
The inside of the cabinet door where spools of thread were stored.
I removed part of the top and put in one large piece that I painted with chalkboard paint. It can be lifted to access the storage area underneath.
Checkers anyone?
Checkers are stored on spindles once used for thread storage. The "checkers" are wooden wheels.
Here's the new top. Part game table, part chalkboard...all looking great.
The cross support for the legs. This was sanded lightly and painted red then ivory. I sanded down to the red in some spots and clear down to wood in others. The legs were lightly sanded and "Restore It" applied, then a coat of polyurethane spray on all leg pieces.
Storage area under chalkboard top. My laptop fits in there just fine. Would be good for books, games, toys....
Polyacrylic was applied to the top and cabinet door. Now it can be a game table, chalkboard or desk.
All done. We've gone from drab and sad to bright and beautiful! I think it looks worth more than the $15 I paid for it.
