Changed pendant lights in kitchen to copper ones on a dimmer switch, my question is 1) they get very hot. 2) the led light bulbs don't work with my dimmer switch. 3) will led bulbs work on a dimmer ???
These are the pendant lights, they are hung now

@Cheryl 1st, copper is extremely good for conducting heat, so any light that gets hot will make the copper fixtures hot also! I don't think LED lights will work with a dimmer, I have a dimmer that I use on the lights on my Christmas tree, but it will only work with regular Christmas lights, it won't work with LED ones. :(

Thanks Katrina, for the info. I have since found out that I need a transformer for LED lights.

I would suggest speaking to someone at your local lighting store or home depot. Led saves hydro but they still gets hot.

Yes, there are LED lights that dim, but pricey. They do last a very long time. As Tara K said, find a good lighting store. Here where I live we have a Batteries Plus store that not only carries batteries of every type imaginable, but also an excellent selection of light bulbs to include the hard to find. They carry dimable LEDs. Lowe's/Home Depot should have them, too.

Make sure you get a comparable dimmer as well. Not all dimmers work. Please go to an electrical/lighting supply house. That's their business and you can trust they'll give you the right dimmer.

Thanks a bunch for the replies, just one thing though I didn't mention that I live in Bali and its not so simple. We can't just pop to the mall, we have to hunt. It can be pretty frustrating at times but eventually most things get sorted. I will hunt tomorrow for a qualified electrician Mmmmm

First off, we LOVE your pendant lamps! Second, yes, they do make dimmable LED bulbs. Unfortunately, older dimmer switches were designed to work with incandescent bulbs. If you run out and buy dimmable LEDs, there's an excellent chance they won't function properly with your existing dimmer switch. With that said, you have a couple of choices. You can update your dimmer switch to one that's LED compatible. Your second option is to purchase LED SMART bulbs that you can dim using an iPhone or Android cell phone. Bulbs like these typically cost more and start at around $30 each. If you have any more questions, please let us know! You can learn more about LEDs here: http://goo.gl/DscIVa

This information should help you with your search. I'm not sure what's available in Bali, but for me, the more information I know, the better I'll be at finding what I need. I'd suggest buying a new dimmer that works with dimmable LEDs. https://www.earthled.com/collections/dimmable-led-light-bulbs

LED lights are dimmable, but they require a different dimmer switch. Check with a lighting store.

Chicago IL, Becky, Sonia, it's early morning here and I'm up and ready to go with info about the dimmer switch I think that should sort my problem out. I have managed to locate a knowlageable electrical store so it should just be a case of wether they stock the goods. Once again thanks to all :)

Ummm! Quick update, pendants up, pendants down. Looked good but not much light being throw off for prep work at night. The copper glow looked very cozy but not practical plus my the other half his words " just don't get them " have found a place for 2 and will make table lamps from other 2. Now have my old ones back up and they look lovely haha!

@Cheryl I'm sorry. We had something similar happen over our dining table awhile back. If all we did was eat there it would be fine, but I also am a seamstress and use it for cutting and sewing and will until we get power to my shed/studio. Why they don't make these pendant lights to handle a high wattage bulb is beyond me. Especially since they are often used in a kitchen. I'm glad you found another place for them. They are beautiful.

    Hello,

Reduce the wattage of your bulbs.
