Most folks use a version of the Kreg Jig http://www.amazon.com/Kreg-MKJKIT-Mini-Jig-Kit/dp/B00065WPP2/ref=sr_1_5?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1361549195&sr=1-5&keywords=kreg+jig in its simplest version it runs about 20 bucks....I picked up the fancy version with a clamping rig etc. As a cabinet maker it has really come in handy. http://www.amazon.com/Kreg-K4MS-Jig-Master-System/dp/B0044BBOQK/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1361549195&sr=1-1&keywords=kreg+jig The Stepped bit produces a flat bottom hole at an angle, then a special screw is used that just penetrates into the second piece of wood.
