Repurposing my repurpose??? Should I or shouldn't I?

Question

I bought this huge 7 ft door at an old school house auction, then my husband and son paired it with another great sale find-- wooden display shelves from a local store to make this cool entry shelf--- but now that spring is just around the corner I'm thinking about another repurpose and making a garden bench-- what to do?????

Don't ruin this! You can make a garden bench out of any scrap of wood so don't destroy this beautiful piece! Add spring to this! Screw in a decorative bracket for a hanging basket at the top and add a beautiful basket. Place some gardening tools in your bucket, lay a straw hat and gardening gloves on the shelf and put a colorful scarf around the torso!

I think you should go for it with the garden bench. As time progresses our needs & wants change & it's okay to continue to find new ways to use items in our home, even if we've already used them for someone else. That's the beauty of repurposing--taking a piece & continuing to give it new life to make it something you love. You loved this door as it has been & you can 're-love' it in its new life as a bench. The nice thing is that you can probably use the display portion of the unit & keep it where it is--just add a large piece of art above it to fill out the space. Post pics if you do change it! :)

@Amy before you make your decision, first consider if you want to redo your entry way and won't miss the door, or if you are only doing it because you want to make a bench with a door or you just want a garden bench. If the answer is you do want a new entry way look and the door project interests you then certainly move forward. I have seen lots of old doors repurposed in many ways with great results. Your entry way has a lot of character and looks charming so do garden benches made with repurposed items. Good luck in your venture and do let us know your choice. Thanks for posting :)

What a great find! Ok I am thinking outside the box, how about installing a storm door where the front door is now as well as a over head cover, if you can afford it a in close porch. Then replace the front door with this one, ok dare if I say this, let this serve as two purpose. But work as one. Such as like a old farm house with the top portion opening on a cool spring day or fall and let the bottom part face Inside the house. However I would not take a chance this for any other use, That would ruin the surface of it.

I really like this piece, its different!!! If you are wanting a bench, find a twin size headboard and foot board,( or whatever size you want)and make your bench from that. I see them all the time at Goodwill, garage sales and estate sales. You cut the foot board in half, that makes the sides of your bench, there are a lot of you tube videos to look at...that way as the seasons change you can change your entry way. This piece is really, really nice...I wouldn't mess with it!! Good Luck...let us know WHAT you do!!!

I'd leave the repurposed door and shelves as is in the entry and buy a garden bench in a material that will hold up outdoors.It looks great in your entry, and it would be a shame to have the wood ruinedoutside, when you have 2 such unusual pieces and have put them together so nicely.

To change the look of door. hang a wreath on the door using an over the door hanger so you don't damage the wonderful door.
