I have a wall of french doors that I want to hang curtains on. The middle is french doors that open and on either side of the doors are stationed windows with the same look. I want to hang some type of curtain or panel on the sides panels of the doors to add some warmth and comfort. The side windows look just like a french door that would open but they do not. What type of curtain or panel should I use?

Is there any wall space on either side of the stationary windows where the panels can rest when open?

Personally I would choose vertical blinds for the window.

Becky, not really also these are interior they do not open to the outside. The French doors that open go to a four season porch. I only want to cover the two side mock doors.

@Debra I'd go with a double rod pocket double rod on the two outside faux doors.

Janet thank you but as you can see in the picture I don't think it would look good. I just want to add some color and warm up the space

Is there wall space above the doors and windows?, Can you hang Floor to Ceiling drapes on rods above? Make the rods over the doors long enough to push the drapes to the side over the windows. There was a blog on here using twin sheets to cheaply and easily make drapes. Just a thought.

I agree with Linda Barret Dirksen. If there is space hang a curtain rod all the way across. Then I would add sheers or lightweight curtains and group them at the areas where the doors do not open so that way when you want you can open the doors easily or have the curtains all the way across when you do not need to open the doors.

I would either put a small rod just above the fake door with a nice color sheer long curtain and maybe either put it to the side with a tieback or in the middle put a tie back and let it hang. My mom had this at her house and she used top and bottom sheer on rod and made it tight sometimes she would but a tie in the middle of it and sometimes let it just sheered and it looked very nice. Just and idea, good luck!

Thank you Carole. I have that now I was looking for some other things that I could do. I guess I will stay with what I have. Thank you for your help

In my last house I had windows and a French door like you describe. I hung a long rod over the whole thing, then I purchased ready made lined draperies in a fabric that coordinated with the decor of my room. i didn't buy the most expensive drapes, but not the cheapest either. Lining is important for warmth and longevity, because the side facing out will be bombarded by sun unless your windows are on the north side of the house. On nice days I fully opened the drapes, on cold, windy days, or on hot, sunny days, I left them closed. I got a lot of compliments on my design choice.

Thank you Patricia I have thought of that as well. My window and doors open to a four season porch. My problem is that I do not get enough light into my living room as it is in the center of the house. I appreciate all the ideas and I am sure to find something that I like.

You're welcome. This was fun to do. Not too messy. The neat thing is being able to change the fabric any time.
