That when a group of animal loving DIY bloggers get together and shop for projects at thrift store the support animal rescues. Did you know many animal rescues and Humane Societies are supported by funds received from thrift stores?
I found a basic laminate cabinet with great storage at our Humane Society Resale Store. It was $10.

I found a basic laminate cabinet with great storage at our Humane Society Resale Store. It was $10.
This is the basic $10 cabinet.
The first step was to cut and glue together boards for a top and bottom. The boards were cut a bit larger to add a routered edge.
The cabinet was paint with two coats of black chalk type paint. Then a layer of clear wax that was buffed to protect. I added the top by setting it upside down on the top and added screws from the inside. Trim was added too.
While it was sitting upside down I added awesome bun feet to the bottom board and attached from underneath. The top and bottom boards and bun feet were aged with tea and vinegar. {The tea and vinegar technique is on the website. Just type in vinegar in search and you will find lots of aging wood projects.}
I took the upcycled remade cabinet back to the Humane Society Resale Store. Then filled the cabinet with loads of craft supplies.
To help earn more for the cabinet, I set it up as a raffle. That way someone will win the craft cabinet for a $5 ticket. Plus the Resale store will make...fingers crossed more in ticket sales for the Humane Society.
