Plant question

I got this small "tree", the tag says Duranta Std. It has beautiful little purple flowers. I plan to try and over winter it, I'm in zone four, does anyone know anything about my 3 1/2 foot tree?

The Duranta is a member of the Verbena family and hardy in zones 8-11, but will need to be brought indoors in a colder climate. They do well in a large container such as a half whiskey barrel.

Before you bring this in makes sure it does not require repotting. This is a tropical in your zone.Spray down the leaves and soil with insecticidal soap, start weathering under a covered porch for a few days. Once that is complete bring indoors in a bright location.Keep the plant moist not saturated. The plant will drop some leaves, however this is normal.

Because Duranta is a tropical plant, it must winter indoors. Some tips to help your tropical make it through the winter: strong light (southern exposure is best); heated indoor air tends to be dry, so give your tropical a misting every week or so; water thoroughly but do not overwater, watering just often enough to keep soil moist but not dbe sure the container your Duranta is in drains well (plenty of holes or be sure to put a good layer of pebbles in the bottom of your container); in spring, when days are sunny and above freezing, start acclimating your Duranta to the outdoors; feed an all-purpose fertilizer in early spring to promote new growth season. Good luck wintering your Duranta and let me know if you have any other plant questions!
