Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in my Kitchen

My whole kitchen has been transformed with chalk paint and sticky tile, even the countertops!! I learned a lot. It looks amazing and it was 'on the cheap'. Happy to answer any questions about the project and all the lessons I learned.
Annie Sloan Chalk Paint on kitchen cabinets. This is Florence with no distressing. The left door has Annie Sloan clear Soft Wax. The right door has both clear and dark wax. Next step matte finish poly topcoat.
The ugly before....wood grain laminate and builder stained cabinets, even notice the stained glass insert gets painted...man this was ugly
Actually made this part a chalkboard :))
Tada!
Faux soapstone with sticky tile back splash and Florence painted cabinets....I am sooo pleased!
Total kitchen transformation with chalk paint and sticky tile! Fabulous!
Scary beginning...but I hated it anyway...right?
It even looked better this color
Do not use thick paint for a toothbrush splash technique !
It stays lumpy and had to be removed...
Along with allllll the other layers...what have I done??!!?
Soooo many layers before I was happy, but I finally thick it matches my floor and walls and...
Sticky tile before I painted the diamonds
This part was trickier than. Thought...I have a whole new appreciation for ceramic tile installers!

You mention a matte finish poly top coat. Are you putting that over the wax layers? And does that make it more durable? I don't hear about that with ASCP, but am wondering if that is what I should do. What is the product?
  • Yes and yes. I will be applying the Artisan Enhancements by Aloha Coatings CLEAR TOPCOAT over the top of the wax layers. Because of heat, water, high traffic and possible scouring that kitchen cabinets must endure it is necessary to apply this topcoat. ASCP has a lacquer topcoat that she suggests for sealing painted floors and I plan to use this as my more durable sealer on the Formica countertops that I will be painting with her chalk paint. Have you watched Annie Sloan on YouTube? Hope this information helps, can't wait to see your finished kitchen and mine! :)
