I was given a beautiful mum in a pot. What do I need to do in the winter and when can I plant it outside?

Enjoy the flowers inside for now. When they have faded, cut all the stems back to 6" and put it in a sunny window for the winter, watering only enough to keep soil slightly moist. Plant outdoors in April.

I have tried planting mums in the ground after blooming and that has never worked. This sounds like a much safer strategy. Good luck!
