Can you add something to chalk paint to make it thinner?

  • Sure! Just add water. Either scoop a little paint into a container and stir in some water. Or you can keep a spray bottle of water with you and squirt your paint as you are painting to thin it out as you go. It will make your finish smoother too.

Just add water. But, as mentioned above; I also suggest you pour some out into another container. Don't dilute your entire can. Just what you need.

I dip my brush in water after I paint when I want it thinner. That way I don't contaminate the paint. I paint a line then dip the tip of my brush and go over the same line.
