Desk Makeover With A Map

This desk was meant to come home with me. After a friend had it in her yard sales for the past year, I finally decided to buy it. It had a lot of amazing qualities.
The drawer that pulls out is one of them and then there is the old wood on the sides and legs.
The thing that I had to change was the painted particle board on the top.
We used scrap wood we had in the garage and cut it to fit the top.
I stained it all a dark color and this is what it looks like now. Isn't it beautiful!!!
I dry-brushed the rest of it in a soft gray.
Last, I cut an old map and Mod Podged it inside the drawer. This is definitely my favorite part.

Maps would be great because you have traveled so much!!! I have never had it stay tacky? The only thing I can think is that is was not fully dry? I usually use white school glue and add some water to it to thin it out. Paint it on in thinner layers and that might help as well. Good luck and thank you for your question!

Thanks Lindsay, I have never thinned it down and always used the mod lodge and not the glue. I tried using a varnish one time for some fabric bow napkin rings that I made. They turned out pretty well, but the varnish discolored the fabric some and so it wasn't as nice as I had hoped. I Probably wouldn't do that again for that reason. I think that better than that, would be doing it with a sugar starch. Then they would be washable and you would just have to stiffen them again with the sugar starch. That can be made so that it is so stiff that you can dust the doily just like you would any knick knack. so only if something was spilled on it would have have to be redone.
