One-of-a-Kind Boho Printer Table

Who says office furniture has to be boring? We created a new table for our printer by pairing the base of an old sewing machine with a large wooden tray then swirling everything in Unicorn Spit rainbow gel stain. The new table we created is functional and beautiful---perfect for the boho-themed space we are creating in our basement.
The basement can be a dark, dreary place in a home. We are re-doing our basement in bright boho colors, creating a space for an art studio as well as a small office space tucked in a corner. The office needed a table to hold the printer. But boring office furniture just wouldn't do! We decided to make our own printer stand using parts salvaged from our garage.

We started with these great legs. They were the base from a long-gone sewing machine.
Then we topped it with this wooden tray we already had.
Now comes the fun part! We used Unicorn Spit, a new non-toxic rainbow gel stain and glaze on both parts of the table to give it a colorful, cohesive new look.

On the tray, I did a design called a Side-by-Side Aura Blast. Basically, I squirted a little bit of color onto the edge of the tray then dragged the product all the way across the wood with my fingers. You keep squirting and dragging and layering colors together until you love the way it looks.
Unicorn Spit is a stain so it absorbs into raw wood like this tray. You can create designs and still have the nice wood grain showing through.

Unicorn Spit is also a glaze so you can apply it over paint to add dimension to the project. That's what I did on the legs. I painted the legs a bright blue. When the paint dried, I added purple Unicorn Spit as a glaze.
You can see in the above picture the effect of the purple on the front leg verses the other bright blue legs. The Unicorn Spit toned down the blue and created an ombre look. It is a very pretty effect, that unfortunately, is not showing up as nicely in the photos as it does in person. I sealed both pieces with Minwax Polyurethane.

Here's the finished table! Bright and boho ... and functional too.
Please visit our All Things New Again Blog for photos of more projects using Unicorn Spit. It can be used on metal, glass, flower pots ... even styrofoam pumpkins. We have lots of photos and project ideas. Please check it out! And if you are ever in Leesburg, VA, please stop by our shop All Things New Again. We would love to see you!
