Eclectic Dining Living Room Tour and Tips

We moved into this home 15 years ago when it was 12 years old. It did NOT look like this lol! This has taken time but after being asked how I pulled off an eclectic decor I thought I'd share. That's all.

My apologies if anyone has seen this posted, I've had problems with photo's not showing and posting to categories.
Carry on!

1. Find Don't Shop!

Just be patient, then furniture will fit the space, use and store the way you want. Your personal items will become a part of the organic flow of your space. It will add to the feel of your decor because it speaks to you, you found it, maybe refinished it, or even redesigned it. Let your childhood, travel and life journey in.

2. Colour

Use it to spice up the space but try to maintain a balance with neutrals.

3. The unexpected.

This goes a long way. My runner is the only place in the room with RED! But it means so much to me. What else..well...shabby chic, country, crystal with rustic, contemporary, wood tones, new, up cycled, refinished, vintage, retro, antiques, painted, stained, and even "new" store purchases.

5. No Matchy Matchy!

With eclectic decor the essence is lost with furnishings that are all purchased from one line or too much of one thing.

6. Meaningful items, objects and art.

Showcase what you love. I've read that you shouldn't display anything smaller than your hand but I think there's a trick to displaying anything! Put your items where they won't be disrupted when you use the area for it's intended purpose. This chest top is used regularly during dinners. I really don't want to have to move or put away items I love to have out!
7. Balance Crisp and Comfort

Eclectic decor can mean there's a place for everything, your own decor refinished pieces, teen or child artwork gifts, handmade items ... Eclectic means you can put yourself out there for people to get a feel of who you are when they walk into your home. It's personal.

Rustic? Oh but look at the tables, mismatched shades, busts on display. it all keeps it from looking like a flea market!

this Black and White room has an aqua backdrop however there's the unexpected pops of warm tones. The room is Arts and Crafts with some Queen Anne furniture. It's pillowy and comfortable with great crisp lines.
