I need ideas for a small shutter I need to re-purpose for my deck makeover

Question

I am doing a restyling/makeover of deck with all up-cycled projects. I have a small shutter (half the size of a regular size one). I want to re-purpose it into something useful or as a piece of art for my deck. The theme is retro Americana (Red, White and Blue colors). Any ideas welcome!

@ there are many examples on this site. Here is the link to the search I did - http://www.hometalk.com/search?filter=repurposed+shutters - my fav is the one used on a plant stand, granted they used 4, but you could do it with just one on the front face of the planter. You might get som very interesting suggestions if you posted pics of your deck, then people will relate directly to your space, also mention colours you like etc. Thanks for the post, I love to see what people do and want to do! :)

You can turn it sideways and paint a flag on it. The slats make it look like the flag is waving. I also used an old shutter in my kitchen and displayed old kitchen utensils on it.

I just love the one on Thriftyfun.......also, u could paint small stars around the outside, stencil too, then on the insidealternate the slots w red, white and blue for a change and no flag??? Just something different. Also, why flag affect.....sponge around the outside and sponge red, white and blue up and down the slats, just a thought.

Distress with chaulk paint or just paint.  Slip photos, Holiday cards, bills ect in slots. We used a tall shutter to display our Christmas cards, decorated with garland at top

Paint it white, use long side to  a shelf with holes to hold clay pots, decorate pots with patriotic colors and add herbs for your outdoor cooking .
