A Quick Fix for Fall Transition Window Boxes!

4 Materials
I added some fall color to mix with the flowers still blooming in the window boxes of my potting shed with a quick fix and without replanting them!
It’s a time of transition weather wise here in North Carolina. Our first frost doesn't typically arrive until Thanksgiving and some of our summer annuals and flowers are still blooming.
Here's how the window boxes looked in August.
I removed the leggy coleus and trimmed back the hole-ridden leaves of the sweet potato vine. I also cut the last purple blooms from the angelonia.
I placed the pumpkin where the coleus was and added some leaves for a celebration of fall color.
I stuck the stems of the burning bush, golden lespedeza, and red dogwood branches directly into the soil to join the lantana, asparagus fern and sweet potato vine.
The soil works the way a wet floral foam does in a flower arrangement and supports the stems while providing some moisture. I can the leaves and stems and enjoy a little fall color until I’m ready to plant some evergreens and deck the halls with boughs of holly!
