The Peacock Project #SpitChallenge

Vickie Fowler Lummus
by Vickie Fowler Lummus
We took this sad little cedar lane chest from the 60's and gave it a peacock style makeover using unicorn spit and acrylic paints and the peacock top is sealed using epoxy. The sides are sealed using polyurethane.
We based this trunk top in dragonsbelly spit lightly.
We added the darker blue, then purple, and alternated with the lighter zia teal to begin the tail.
Then came the beginnings of the peacock. I used acrylics for the entirety of the peacock and tail after the aura blast
The tail is finished!
The top.
Using unicorn spit, I blended the sides with dragons belly and zia teal.
After edging everything and polying the sides.

From your post it seems you are an accomplished artist/crafter and your chest is beautiful beyond. This brings me to my question: I have an old pine buffet which is in pretty good shape except for the top. It isn't stained, but has been waxed (a long time ago) with a clear coat the I'm sure is almost gone. The colors of the Unicorn Spit are so beautiful and seem to be mixable to create different shades. The top is water stained and the wood is kind of "fuzzy" in a spot or two. With a bit of sanding will the Spit work as a stain alone on this piece?

This is one of the prettiest pieces I have seen with unicorn spit! I absolutely love it!

You have inspired me to take the old cedar chest that my mom called my "hope chest" and do something similar to what you did. Yours is AMAZING! Thank you!
