Paint Plastic Shower Curtain?

Can a plastic shower curtain be painted upon. I just want a few decorations on the curtain, not the whole thing. I don't want a fabric curtain because we Need the light coming through as much as possible. I may even want to get a clear curtain if I can put design on in paint of some sort? What do you think?

Yes, honey! Take that curtain down and go to town. I would paint on the outside, rather that soggy wet inside. This would be an application for a latex paint, or possibly spray paint with the right preparation.

Thanks Carolyn,i' m with you...not worth my time . I am the only one it bothers, and there are only two of us....so some things you just have to adapt to. This is one of them. Bigger stuff to deal with, right?đŸ™„

Because of the humidity in a bathroom it may be better to dress up your room in another way, as I am not sure if paint etc. will remain on plastic.

Have you thought of using duck tape or I think its called washy tape ? Check out the craft store in your area they have so many colours and lots od designs this would be so much easier to look after no hassle. I don't think paint would last very long .

Forget the paint. Try stringing some colorful beads in different lengths and attaching them to the curtain hooks. Or you might tie colorful ribbons in different lengths to the curtain hooks. I think paint could turn into a disaster.

Oh,that's a really good idea! Thanks.yes I had been wondering if paint would peel or crack.

If you are planning to tape off your design, spray paint would be fine. Most have a primer built in so other than the risk of overspray, I would use spray paint. If you are planning to free-hand or use a stencil, I would use either acrylic craft paint or latex paint with a brush or sponge. Hope that helps.

I've used permanent marker on shower curtains and it works great. Use them to write quotations, phrases, words, anything that will cheer up your bathroom.

Maybe stencil a monogram on it. Monograms are very popular right now and it would look very rich...

Why are you having an issue with light in there?
    • Bernice H Bernice H on Nov 12, 2015
Because when the shower curtain is closed, all the light from that little window is cut off.makes the bathroom dark during the day. So when curtain is pulled back for light, shampoo bottles etc show.

Bernice--To address your issue with light, how about a curtain whose top 1/3 is clear vinyl? You still have necessary privacy while showering, (unless you're well over 6 ft) and you.can keep the shower curtain closed when not in use to keep toiletries out of sight. Here's one to give you an idea. http://www.overstock.com/Bedding-Bath/Antibacterial-and-Antimicrobial-Mildew-Resistant-See-Through-Top-Clear-White-Vinyl-Shower-Curtain/10373308/product.html
    • Love those shower curtains! I have them in each of my bathrooms. The ones with the grommet holes so I didn't need to get curtain hooks. PERFECT!

I have a heavy duty curtain that I painted over 20 yrs. ago using regular craft acrylic paints. Just free handed flowers, leaves and stems. Still looks good.

What about some decal's I see a lot of pretty ones at the Dollar tree!!

I ALWAYS use a heave duty clear shower curtain by itself. I saw the movie Psycho! You can use acrylic paints on the plastic. Go to Michael's and ask them for ideas. Good luck with this project. Sounds like fun.

Well I certainly will check it out when in the states again. Otherwise,it is an ,oh well,it is what it is,a small irritation. After all how long am I in the bathroom?
  • Johnchip Johnchip on Nov 20, 2015
If this is used by guests, i would not do a hand painting unless you are a good artist. It can look cheap if done poorly.
  • Bernice H Bernice H on Dec 11, 2015
Just not gonna bother with such a small irritation., yup!

Acrylic paint does the job for me. I bought 2 clear shower liners, painted fishies on one side and spray adhesives the 2 liners together. The shower liners are much cheaper than shower curtains

Can someone please tell me what kind of spray paint and or paint that guarantee a good stick to plastic shower curtians, and where can I find it?

  • Jennifer Deloach Jennifer Deloach on Jun 04, 2019

I saw online earlier that on Plastic to use Acrylic based paint fabric paint and to use rubber based paint on vinyl. I liked the comment about the sharpies and the clear wall decals on the plastic. I will try these on inexpensive shower curtains first. LOL It does sound like fun!
