Geometric Art

When I needed some art for a blank wall in our new house on a tight budget I painted over an old canvas to make my own.

First I took an old canvas and painted a random pattern with splodges and squirts of the left over paint I had just lying around. Creams and golds to match our room.

Next I marked out a geometic pattern with masking tape and drew the outline of the tape a portion at a time. Then using ordinary emulsion house paint I painted between the lines.

If you are buying new materials to make art like this then it's easier to mark a blank canvas with tape, splodge with colour, remove the tape and ta-dah! However if you want to try a thrifty makeover of an old canvas, this is one way to get a whole new look.

I love making new art on canvases, if you are feeling more adventurous you might like to try this abstract art idea too.
