How to Repurpose a Bookcase

Patricia Scott-Finn
by Patricia Scott-Finn
My daughter needed extra storage in her bedroom and when I found this bookcase in our attic I had an "Aha" moment.
I had already made her pillows and a bed scarf out if this fabric, so I bought more to make a cushion for the top of the bookcase.
The first thing I did was make two monogrammed pillows.....
And then the cushion. Afterwards, I went to Michaels and bought 7 baskets...
I put them on both shelves of the bookcase.
This is how it turned out. One more picture to follow of the window seat/bookcase along with the bed....
She loved it! Now she can store shoes and maybe purses in the baskets.

The idea is lovely, but I am a bit worried. Can she sit on the bench without it topping over? Has it been stabilized? Especially if an energetic person sits and squiggles... :-0)

I love this idea. I just can't quite understand it so please help me with this. If this was a bookcase, it must have originally stood the other direction? So it was tall? If so, it would have had several shorter shelves on it. How did you get the long shelf you have there now and make it look exactly like the rest of the wood? Or did it originally sit this direction and I am totally misunderstanding? Thank you very much!
