We began by choosing some boards from a pallet we broke apart. We cut four pieces about 17" long and then glued them together with wood glue .
We used clamps to help keep them tight as they dried. The next day we sanded the front and back to expose the beautiful grain in the wood!
Next we used a router and came in 1 1/2" From edges to form a gutter for run off of meat drippings.
This is after the router cut the gutter !
Next we just sanded some more to make sure their were no rough edges!
This is before the wood was conditioned.
See the pretty grain!!
Next we did some research to find a good, safe, edible conditioner for the wood! After all of our research, we found "Howard's" Butcher Block conditioner. It has food grade mineral oil, beeswax, and carnuba wax.
We paid $8.00 for this and picked it up at our local Lowes! This was our ONLY expenditure ! We put three coats on it!
Now we have a cutting board for the Thanksgiving day turkey and a memoire to pass down to the children !!
