Rustic Wood Slice Ornament Banners

Each year we make a few new ornaments for our Christmas tree. Our tree is leaning to a slightly rustic style, with lots of natural tones with cranberry reds. I also focus on making ornaments that are more family friendly. No use spending all of December worrying about the kids breaking ornaments!
This year I used some branches my neighbor trimmed off his tree and cut them into slices on my miter saw. I learned that the fresh branches will crack when they dry, they are full of moisture. I didn't let that stop me, instead I embraced the rustic and used the cracked (and free) wood slices anyway.
To make these easy ornament banners, all you need to do is sketch the letters you want on the front of the letters. I printed out some letters in a font I liked to help me sketch them out.
Then I filled in my letters with a good ol' Sharpie.
Drill a hole in the top and string the letters on some twine. For more detailed instructions on how I strung these, you can check out my blog.
Now they are ready to string up on the tree! I love how they look on our rustic, family-friendly Christmas tree. And they were practically free!
