Help I need advice how to decorate outside of my rental

Question

I'm renting a cute house starting December 1st.  I think it had potential to look inviting for he holidays but I just don't know where to begin. I like simple and I like country. I also love clear lights. Any ideas would help. Thank you all.

I would put a tall garden arch close to the front door and grow a jasmine or something sweet smelling over it so people walk through to the door. There's not much of an entry at present. I've done it recent;y with white solar lights entwined. I reckon lining the path with flowers would add a lot for very little if you are allowed. Make a birdbath out of recycled globes for the middle of the lawn? Im assuming you will take these things with you when you move on. It certainly has potential..

A Burning Bush would look great on the left side of the picture near the house. A doormat and repainting the front door -- your choice on color. I've never been a fan of blue.

Since this is not planting time you can decorate with artificial Christmas flowers within the garden. Put a pretty wreath on the house next to the mailbox,Garland around the door with some clear lights.I would then run sets of lights running across the front of the house if that is possible for you to do.

Ok I am a landscape designer. The first thing you need to do is make bigger beds for you plants. 6' wide is a good size. Most shrubs even if they are dwarf will still get 4' by4' so with a six foot bed you can stagger the plants and also add a row of perennials or annuals in front and give it some depth. Then you also want to have a specimen plant that is taller so maybe off the left side swing the bed out in a nice at h and add a small tree like a dwarf crab Apple or a Japaneese bloodhound maple. Then make the beds with gentle curves so it's easy to mow. Add a shade tree in the front. Paint the front door a nice color like red or teal. You could also add some window boxes with annuals in them and you could also bring a 2' bed down along the walk and put in a row of lavender or walkers low catmint.

I am sorry I thought you owned the rental. I would still do the window boxes and put greens and lights and bulbs in them. Then a beautiful wreath on the door lights off the roofline.

Cute little house! For the winter, I'd plant some purple kale in spots among your bushes. It doesn't appear you have much room on the porch for containers beside your door but if you put tall concrete urns in the garden bed on each side and plant them with topiaries or ornamental grasses, it will frame your doorway beautifully. (Here in zone 8, zebra grass is gorgeous year round and it's hardy through zone 5.) Good luck.

Fresh cut greens on the window sills with a red ribbon bow in the middle of each. An evergreen wreath on the door.  A single white electric or battery candle inside the window behind the bow. White lights around the overhang of the roof.  And a few tomato cage trees placed wherever you think they look best in the garden area. Would love to see a picture on what you decide to do. :-)

You could put rope lights down both sides of the sidewalk down the steps to the driveway,,, they could be in white or colored lights cut evergreen branches and lay on the outer side of the lights, maybe add some holly with berries every few feet..
 you can leave the rope lights out year round they are encased in a tube, and would add to the safety of the sidewalk at night.
 Other than that just make it You... whatever you think is festive for the holiday..

I agree with the shutters but black might be too stark against the white, try a dark gray. I would paint the door a deep red and make it pop. Also maybe add a taller scrub or tree until your other ones grow a bit. I also like the idea of an urn or something tall on either side of the door. You need some height in there.

Luminaries: battery operated flicker candles w/ timer options, inside glass jars. (Kerr, Mason, which ever brand is available) Maybe finish them off at the top with a bit of twine. Can be added along pathway, in the windows, in the flower beds. If you worry about them breaking then one might use empty peanut butter jars.

You know a bench set off to the left, in the yard would be nice too and maybe a bird bath to the right of the door in the flower bed. I like whimsical things, so wind chimes and some hanging things or whirligigs hanging from one of those wrought iron hooks that stakes into the ground and some pots and/or solar lights going down that walk way. Can't wait to see what you do with it.

May I suggest a small sled decorated with a few pine cones ties together with some burlap, add some evergreens and some twinkle light added leaning up against the wall next to the door. A mason jar lantern or two on the door steps, and even a wooden Christmas tree with colored lights in the yard. You can also add a large star on both sides of the garage entrance. Most of these are inexpensive to make or buy. Happy Decorating.

Something to think about ,for improving the look of the plain front of the home, is to install faux Shutters. Paint the Garage door in a contrasting color etc

I'm assuming you're wanting to decorate for the Christmas holiday. I would make a large sign to put on the right side of your entry door (as you're looking at your picture) leaned up saying Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, HO HO HO, whatever you like. Hang snow flakes in all the front windows that light up or sparkle, a pretty colorful wreath on the door. That would give you a start and not very expensive. Have fun!
