What did I do with my crate? I added holiday words that help remind us what the meaning of the season is - and I did it in a super simple way - and painted it to go with our cottage-farmhouse decor.

The finished crate perfectly holds our cozy fur throw, adding a nice holiday touch to our hearth. I may move it under our tree to hold small gifts, or use it to take gifts to our family celebration. I love how it can be used so many ways!
Here's the basic $12 wood crate we all started with. You can find them at Michaels and seasonally at places like Home Depot. While you can read the complete tutorial and sources for this project on my blog at the url below, here are the basic steps:
Paint the front slats with a craft paint antiquing gel - this dries fast and can be painted over fairly quickly.
Plan your words and spacing of letter stickers and then apply them to the dried, stained slats.
Paint the entire crate and then peel off the stickers to reveal the warm brown stain. Give everything a good sanding, distressing the edges as you like.
This project literally took just a few minutes of time, though over a couple days in order to wait drying time. The hardest part was finding stickers that fit the slats - and I've done that job for you, so yours will be even easier!
