Making Craft Stick Snowflakes for Christmas Mantle Display

This year on Thanksgiving, while the turkey cooked, my family and I made craft stick snowflakes to decorate our Christmas mantle.
I had seen some other snowflakes made from popsicle sticks on the web. I really loved them and liked the idea of making some large snowflakes to decorate our fireplace.
When I went to buy my popsicle sticks, I saw these funky craft sticks with notches for building things. I thought these notches would add some interesting details to the shape of our snowflakes.
So on Thanksgiving Day, while the turkey was cooking, we each made a couple of snowflakes using craft sticks and basic white glue. No rules here, just that each one had six points like real snowflakes. Some of our snowflakes came out looking more like stars, but that's okay. They still fit in with our holiday decorations.
When the snowflakes were dry, I gave each one a coat of gold paint. My plan was to stick these snowflakes around the wooden surround of our fireplace using mounting squares, but the mounting squares wouldn't stay stuck to the craft sticks.
So after trying a few other options, I ended up using Command hooks and fishing line to hang these snowflakes from my mantle. They twist and turn in the air, which I don't like. But overall, I love these handmade additions to our holiday display.
