Rustic Anthro-Inspired Wreath

Last year, I saw a wreath at Anthropologie that was cool and colorful and rustic and super simple... in theory! Time got away from me so I couldn't manage the same scale, but... the technique came out JUST as I'd hoped and this little pop of color is still one my favorite DIY decor.
The premise is colorful thread-wrapped sticks looped together to make a wreath.
First stop... nature! My daughter and I went for a walk in the woods and gathered fallen twigs that were about the thickness of my thumb. I used garden clippers to trim them to approx. 5 inches long.
Sewing thread or cotton embroidery thread both work... I just used what I had and wrapped each end until no bark showed through. I left the center unwrapped to make it easier to drill a hole.
I alternated with some metallic thread and added some multicolored ends to some of them. I also used some silver leaf on the exposed tips for a handful of sticks as well.
All the colors of the rainbow!
I used an dry cleaning hanger as my frame, so made sure to choose a large enough drill bit and carefully drilled through the center of each stick.
String the sticks onto the hanger and shape however you want!
Rustic and colorful and shiny and bright! Perfect for hanging on a doorknob.

I got carried away with thread for my embroidery machine about 8 years ago. Did you know thread gets weaker with age? Now I have something to do with the ones that keep breaking.

Quality brand name thread that is stored properly, covered of from light and dust and away from humidity, should not weaken or warp over time.
