Tool to Remove Privet bushes from yard

A couple of years ago Walter mentioned on his show that there was a tool to assist in removing privet bushes from your landscape. The tool was essentially a long lever where one end the lever grabbed the trunk of the privet near ground level and the bush/tree got ripped out of the ground roots and all. At the time, I had written the name of this tool down some where but I can't find it anymore. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

It's a Weed Wrench www.weedwrench.com/ They're pricey but I notice that they now have a loan/rent/borrow part of their website so you can get use out of your tool after you clear your property. Mine is used each month to pull privet at Kittredge Park in DeKalb county.

OBVIOUSLY , I'M NOT AS SMART AS TOM AND WALTER ......ABOUT HALF WAY BACK ON ONE SIDE OF MY HOME , I STARTED/TRIED TO FORM A PRIVET INTO A TREE . WELL , LAST YEAR I DECIDED THAT PROJECT WAS A FAILURE AND DOWN CAME A MULTI-TRUNKED PRIVET AT LEAST 15' TALL . UNFORTUNATELY , ON THE OTHER SIDE OF MY HOME , A NEIGHBOR WHO COULD CARE LESS ABOUT GARDENING , HAS AN EQUALLY LARGE PRIVET .....NOW EACH YEAR , I PRUNE IT BACK TO THE PROPERTY LINE .
  • Check out northern tool for all sorts of brush removers. Depending on how you want to remove them they have hand held models and ones that can be used with a truck or tractor. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/category_grounds-maintenance+weed-brush-removal Be sure to read the comments on some of them as a few are not worth spending money on. But others seem to be quite nice.

When we do that our tool of choice is a bob cat or a truck/tractor and a chain. Works every time no matter how big those buggers get.

So far Walter's suggestion seems to be the winner. :-)

Yeah look at that bush he pulled up. Now try that on a ten year old privet and see how far you get.

I don't need a bobcat to do what I'm needing. I'll keep you in mind though.

I've pulled them up with a 5" trunk, roots and all. BTW I don't have a bob cat I just have some friends that do. Once summer we pulled up about 50 of those buggers all at once. It took about 8 hours to get them all out, piled up and burned. I was glad to see them go. I doubt that I could have done it that fast with a weed wrench.
