How to Make a Geometric Magnetic Bottle Opener With Scrap Wood

Easy
Scrap wood usually stays in a pile in my garage and seldom gets reused, but I decided to turn two discarded pieces into useful additions to my kitchen (& one was gifted to a friend)! Inspired by the from Sawdust Girl, I came up with my plan.
The general idea: when a beer bottle is opened, the cap is magnetized to stick to the wood. And because the back of the piece is magnetized as well, it easily sticks to the fridge! Click on the post link below for full details. Here's how I got started...
We all have a scrap pile that sits in the garage and doesn't get used (or we simply forget about it too often). The genius of this project is that it can easily turn one or more of those too-small-to-do-anything-with pieces into something functional for the home! Especially if you're a craft beer fanatic like me ;)
The made this project a lot of fun. Since I couldn't use any new materials to make my bottle opener, I had to get creative with shapes I could cut out from the existing scrap I had.
After cutting them out, I had to sand and prepare each piece. I made a few mistakes, but in the link below, I show you how to correct them with my favorite wood putty.
Using a bit, I drilled into the back of each in strategic places to help make the front magnetic. For photos of the final result and full instructions, take a look at the link below!
