#CreateandShare Holiday Stenciled Reindeer Wall Art With Lights

Welcome to this month's Create and Share Challenge! This month, 19 of us teamed up with Cutting Edge Stencils and created projects with their holiday line of stencils.
This project was inspired by my love of Christmas Eve midnight Mass:

* Surrounded by grandparents, aunts, and uncles.

* The world seemingly covered in a blanket of inky blackness and silent calm.

* Frosted window panes.

* Quiet, reverent voices {until one of my aunts or uncles inevitably started laughing}.

* Smiles and hugs generously given.
Upon seeing this stencil, those memories {which I hadn't thought about in years} filled my mind. Perhaps it's the lights on this stencil? Or the stained glass-esque design?

I'm not sure, but I knew immediately that I wanted to work with this stencil!
Here's how to create your own Reindeer Wall Art with Lights!
Position your stencil on your canvas and tape it down well, so that it doesn't shift mid-stenciling.
Start stenciling. Be sure to blot your brush or roller on a paper towel or something similar. This will help you avoid the problem of paint bleeding under the stencil.

Once you've finished stenciling, remove the stencil from your canvas and let the paint dry thoroughly.

After your paint has dried, you can touch up any "brush-operator" errors with a fine brush or a toothpick and paint in the color of your canvas.
Now, add any embellishments you'd like. I added a die-cut that says "Peace, Joy, Love & Cheer."

Spray your canvas with shimmer/glimmer spray. I recommend practicing on a scrap piece of white or black card stock first, so that you know the proper amount to spray. Remember that overeager thing? That got the better of me here, too.

Let that dry.
Use your X-Acto Knife to cut small x's in each bulb of the light string. You're much better off having too small of an x here than too large of one!

Slip a twinkle light bulb into each x and secure with duct tape on the back side of the canvas.
Now, find a place for your canvas, plug in the lights, add a few thoughtful details, and marvel at your creativity! :0)
