Repurposed Lamp Shade Gift Basket

The art of gift wrapping. Some people take great pride when wrapping up their packages for the holidays, others find it daunting. These days, the cost of gift wrap can get pretty expensive, so when you cheat on the cost a little, all the better, right? I had this pretty tartan fabric covered lamp shade that I knew I wouldn't use anywhere in my home and put it to the challenge for this month's Junk Revision challenge of "unexpected gift wrap."

The tartan lamp shade was in good shape and just the right size to work as a gift basket.

-Certain lamp shades might work better than others for this project. I found that a lamp shade with the "light bulb clip" works well if you flatten the clips out.

-Then you can flip the lamp shade over, trace the bottom onto a piece of card board to create a bottom for the lamp shade basket.

-Tape off and paint the inside of the shade if desired.

-Poke a two holes on each side of lamp shade for handles.

Note: for older, more delicate lamp shades, consider a different method for making handles, such as gluing rope to the inside of the shade.

This tartan lamp shade worked out perfectly as a Christmas gift basket and I have just the person on my list that this gift will go to.
