WOW! Harsh! OK, I'm new and only a homeowner, BUT hubby and I chose Bamboo floor this summer. What I decided to do, since I'm NOT an eco freak or anything like that (j.k.).....but I took the samples at the BigStoreinHomeShoppingWHOSHALLREMAINNAMELESS. lol they had samples of the wood they had to offer. I tried to drop, gouge, poke, stab, beat, hit with anything hard I could find, scrape etc....and the Bambooj was totally the winner hands down! WHY? Because I have 2 wonderful grandsons who love to have fun and this Nonna does not want to alway be a party pooper when it comes to her floors. SO for ME, I'm loving my bamboo floor....which btw, you'd never know it was bamboo by looking at it, and so do my 2 little dogs who run and get excited, but try and come to a screeching halt on it......NO scratches. I do have 1 ding from hubby dropping a big chunch of broken glass the other day! Only I notice since I do the floor, but other than that, not really visibale! : )

I have a bamboo cutting board that has worn like iron. As a garden plant, one must be aware of full grown size (usually huge!). We have kept a normally 35' bamboo to fence height with a weekly prune. Not for those that want a no-work landscape.

I love bamboo. I had a grove of it in my yard in Nashville. We loved to sit in the evening and listen to the wind rustle the stalks.

Who doesn't love bamboo??? I love the plant as well as the wide range of products that are being made these days. I just won't recommend using it in a wet place apart from that I'd put it anywhere, wall, floors, countertops etc.

I do also have bamboo growing in our yard. The Georgia clay in my backyard is NOT a gardeners dream. The bamboo grows like a champ and does not get too out of control. It makes a great fence/barrier in the summer time and does simply require maintenance to keep it growing only where you want it. So far, cutting the stalks back has not been too much trouble. And, Donna, I know exactly what you mean - I am very familiar with that sound! =) And, DID YOU KNOW, that if you live in Atlanta and have a lot of bamboo on your property that has not been chemically treated, and you want to get rid of it, you can contact the ZOO? The Atlanta Zoo's pandas go through so much bamboo that the representatives from the zoo will actually come harvest your bamboo to feed those hungry bears! How about that?

Bamboo as a landscape is not a bad way to provide fast cover, but as said it can get out of hand. Now to build a ruff shelter or a raft it works great. For flooring not so good. I'm just saying.................not the product to use........

My neighbor has huge bamboos in his backyard & they are beautiful. I will ask my neighbor to contact our local zoo. He has enough for himself & the zoo, too. He's a nice guy so he might just do it.

Well heck there are no Pandas in Florida Zoos. The closest zoo to Florida is in your backyard in Atlanta. Lucky you AK.
