Holiday DIY: Coffee Filter Christmas Tree

$5.00

Using just a few items, I will show you how to make a cute little holiday decoration in very little time and for very little money!

The list of items you need is short and you probably have most of them on-hand already. You will need a styrofoam cone, basket coffee filters, Regular project glue, and some little decorations for your finished tree. TIP: I used Elmer's Glue. You could use a glue gun but if it gets really hot, you may end up burning the filters and ruining your tree. This regular glue holds just fine.

The cone that I had on-hand (I got this one at the dollar store and they were actually two for a dollar!) was a little shorter than I wanted so I simply glued the cone to the top of an old ribbon spool to give it more height.

Next you will take a small stack of filters, fold them in half and cut the centers out. Start feeding them onto the cone down to the bottom. TIP: If you have a rather large cone, you may need to split the ring and then wrap it around and glue it on. You will just keep layering until you reach the top of your cone. As your cone gets smaller, you are going to cut the filter ring and wrap it around and glue it in place. When you get to the top, you can either cover the top by gluing one of the filter centers onto it or you can take a small piece of ring and wrap it around the top and glue it. That is what I did. Now simply shape your tree by gently pulling sideways on the filters until you get a tree shape you like.

Now all you have left to do is decorate it. I used some tiny silver beads I had on hand but you could also use tiny tree ornaments or colored beads you may have already. For the topper I used some ribbon I had and used a bent paperclip to fasten the topper to the tree by pushing the one end into the styrofoam and the other end is hooked around the ribbon and decoration. That's it! Enjoy!
