I have huge day lilies in my front yard, the area of the plant of course is getting bigger every year and they take up a big amount of my small gardening space...can I dig these up now and put into big container pots?

You can certainly grow daylilies in containers, Cathy. I might not make the containers too big so you can easily move them around. That way you can always keep the varieties that are in bloom front and center. Make sure the containers have drainage holes and that you use a well-draining potting mix. And, of course, you will have to pay more attention to watering to plants in containers than in the ground.

I agree with @Douglas Hunt you sure can put them in pots. You will have to divide to conquer every few years to keep them blooming, and give them some bloom booster fertilizer

I have grown mine in barrels and they come back very year, even after our harsh Canadian winters.

Daylilies can grow in all kinds of containers. If you still like the in yard though you can just divide them and give to friends in pots at Christmas and they can watch them bloom in spring!
