Color ideas for hutch makeover

What's a good color of chalk paint for this cabinet? It is my second upcycled project and I recently discovered chalk paint. I'm not too much into distressed looking pieces and I'm lost on the color to make it sell. Any ideas??
I already removed doors and the hardware that I don't want. Maybe a two toned color??
This thrift store find was missing the glass on one door and had out dated hardware.

IMO black updates anything and always looks elegant -- although if you go dark, you would want to paint the interior a lighter color so your displayed items will "pop". White is always an option, and you can line the back with a modern paper. What a FUN project!

If you are going to use this piece for yourself and like some color I thinks that will depend on the other pieces of furniture in the room, wall and all of your furnishings.

Seems everyone is doing shades of blue or black. If you like blue or black that;s great but if you are going to be adventurous and do all the work , why not try something out of the ordinary like a nice deep burgundy or a khaki or a mustard color accented with the dark wax afterwards to really bring out the details . Pick a color you love not just something that everyone is doing . You will make it your own and love it better than just something everyone else thinks is special.

If you are painting this for resale, then best to stay in the neutral family. Since it is more of a mid-century piece, you might consider using a more satin or glossy finish rather than chalk paint. I think an antique white exterior with a dove gray interior/back of shelves would be lovely and useful in many settings. There's a pretty blue called serenity blue that would be a nice interior compliment as well, but not sure what chalk paint would be along those lines. Also I have a black hutch in my kitchen that is backed in canvas French script fabric that is gorgeous if you want to venture out a bit.

I agree. If you want to sell it, stay neutral, black or cream, but if you're keeping it, go wild with anything that matches your decor.

Since you want to resell it and because of the MCM style, I would paint the exterior black and the interior a bright white. That combo seems to be popular right now and never really goes out of style. As to using chalk paint, I am wondering if it worth the cost! Also these old pieces from the 60's and 70's often look better with the original hardware either cleaned and polished or spray painted and then put back on the piece!
